Update: Tony Aguila replies: "A simpler solution is to just disable the system extension PDFMaker. ![]() The solution is to manually remove the PDFMaker add-in files from the Office->Startup-> Excel, PowerPoint, Word folders." Unfortunately, you are not able to turn off these toolbar features in the usual way. The extra load time is due to the extra add-in called PDFMaker being loaded for each application at the launch of the program (result of files in the respective startup folder in Microsoft Office). The PDFMaker add-ins cause extra load time for each of the three Office applications 'improved' by this addition. PDFMaker is not a separate application installed in this Acrobat 5.0 patch. From the Acrobat PDFMaker Help file: 'Acrobat PDFMaker 5.0 for Mac OS allows one-click creation of Portable Document Format (PDF) files directly from Microsoft Word 98, Word 2001, PowerPoint 98, PowerPoint 2001, Excel 98, and Excel 2001.' This feature is accomplished via add-in files for each of the three Office Applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. "The Acrobat 5.0 patch (5.0.5) installs a feature called Acrobat PDFMaker. Choosing CreatePDF from the Page Setup menu gives me an Unexpected Quit as the Acrobat upgrade also trashed my AdobePS 8.7.3 Chooser extension."Ĭhris Widmer offers insight into the cause of the stall: Robert Ameeti writes: "MS Word now stalls for about 20 seconds immediately after the Adobe button bar gets written with no icons and then after the stall is complete, the 2 icons get drawn to the button bar. ![]()
